Grace Hopper was born in New York and died in Arlington, Virginia. She was an American mathematician, rear admiral in the U.S Navy and was a pioneer in developing computer techno logy. She worked on the first large-scale automatic calculator and precursor of electronic computers. She wrote, A Manual of Operation for the Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator the first computer manual ever wrote. She invented the first computer languagecompiler, and helped devise the naval applications for COBOL. Hopper received 40 honorary degrees from universities across the world during her lifetime that lasted from December 9, 1906 to January 1, 1992. Grace Hopper played a major role in the development of Computer science.
